The Andrés y María Cárdenas Family Foundation (AMCFF) is a family based non-profit organization that relies solely on contributions from community members and sponsors to award college scholarships to deserving and ambitious students from the Northeast San Fernando Valley. Founded in 1997, the AMCFF has awarded nearly 1,000 students with college scholarships, totaling over $1 million investment in the community’s youth.
FundaMental Change is proud to partner with the Andres y Maria Cardenas Foundation to offer scholarships to deserving students who are committed to pursuing an education and career in the mental health field as well as to thriving students who are living with a mental illness or who support a family member or close friend with a mental illness.
We are excited to announce that FundaMental Change has partnered with SRD Straightening Reins to sponsor equine-assisted and interactive therapies, designed to improve adolescent and teen mental health and well-being, to residential clients at The Teen Project in Sun Valley, CA. This program launched in July 2020, and has continued into 2021.
Samantha Rocha Dyer (SRD) Foundation Straightening Reins is a 501(c)(3) public nonprofit established in 2011. SRD provides behavioral, educational, and community outreach services to youth and their families in Los Angeles County.
Didi Hirsch transforms lives by providing mental health, substance use and suicide prevention services in communities where stigma or poverty limits access. Founded in 1958, Didi Hirsch’s Suicide Prevention Center is the nation’s first and most comprehensive resource of its kind. It offers 24/7 multilingual crisis services, therapy and support and training. It also advances the field of suicide prevention by partnering with university researchers to develop and test new programs.
FundaMental Change is proud to partner with Didi Hirsch to offer Sip of Hope. Our Sip of Hope series brings together residents and community leaders in various Los Angeles neighborhoods for coffee and a discussion of suicide prevention, mental health, and wellbeing in a welcoming environment.
The mission of Hillview Mental Health Center is to provide comprehensive, compassionate and culturally sensitive mental health services to adults and youths in the East San Fernando Valley. Along with the challenges of mental illness and substance abuse disorders, Hillview clients suffer the burdens of poverty. Hillview offers a full range of outpatient behavioral health and substance use disorder services while working to meet practical needs such as housing, employment and transportation.
FundaMental Change is proud to support Hillview’s Clubhouse and Drop-In Services which offer clients the chance to socialize and learn. The Clubhouse features a variety of activities including daily classes, interest groups, educational excursions and daily low-cost lunches for low income patients.
Since 1971, Meet Each Need with Dignity (MEND) has served the most vulnerable residents of the San Fernando Valley and has become one of the most comprehensive poverty relief agencies in Los Angeles County. MEND is an anchor institution with the largest food bank in the Valley and offering medical, dental, and vision clinics, clothing, and homeless care services. Each month, MEND provides assistance to over 14,600 individuals and an accounted for an average of 30,000 client encounters.
FundaMental Change is proud to partner with MEND to offer mental health screenings, and case management to clients in acute need. This will enable MEND to better address the root causes of client vulnerabilities including, food insecurity, domestic violence, and economic distress.
New Economics for Women (NEW) works to help women and women-led families overcome histories of discrimination, poverty, and violence through housing, education, and entrepreneurship. NEW’s La Posada offers young mothers in need a parenting program and transitional housing.
FundaMental Change is proud to partner with NEW to offer mental health and emotional support for women and families at La Posada as part of a comprehensive plan to help address the trauma experienced by young mothers and their children and better support them towards educational and economic stability.
